Those adventurous enough to get up early are gifted by the sun with spectacular phenomenon- sunrise. the  rising sun is a challenging yet rewarding subject to photograph.

PREPARE

you can get great sunrise shots without having to drive out in boonies, most likely you can get a great sunrise where you are. you are going to be using a wide angle lens most likely, so keep in mind when looking for a good location, make sure you're shot will be free of distancing junk.

LETS LEARN

WARNING - never look directly into the sun! shooting a sunrise follows some general landscape photography rules.

  • use a tripod. you are going to be shooting at slower shutter speeds, so a tripod will keep the camera steady.
  • use a shutter release cable. 
  • make sure to avoid distracting things in your pictures.
don't be afraid to shoot vertically.
