GET STARTED
Snow days! not only will they get you're classes cancelled, they'll also give you awesome photographs...
PREPARE
Snow is best photographed during the dawn/dusk time windows. if it's snowing, however, it's going to be cloudy, so go ahead and shoot all day if you want-the light is great! charge your batteries, clean your gear and reformat your cards. Dress in warm waterproof clothes. make sure you keep your batteries on your person so that they stay warm-cold temperatures zap batteries power. keep your camera in camera bag. condensation is not good for camera.
LETS LEARN
When shooting snow, your camera will be confused by the bright white scene and make it gray.
- if there's a gray object in your scene, take a meter reading off it. you may have to dial down the exposure compensation a bit.
- you are going to dealing with reflections off the snow, so a lens hood will come in handy to help ward off glare as well.
- cloudy days make for great black and white snow images.
- look for cool shadows to lead the viewer's eye into the picture
